BULLDOG BRILLIANCE Senior Zoe Maxwell Scores 100th Career Goal, Named Athlete of the Week ![]() Zoe Maxwell, an Irvington High School senior and outstanding soccer player, scored her 100th career goal during a game against Dobbs Ferry High School on Oct. 11. She reached the milestone when she scored the first goal of the game, which was followed by four additional goals for a final 6-1 victory. Currently at 108 goals, Maxwell is the first student-athlete among the boys and girls soccer teams at Irvington High School to reach the milestone in recent history. “Zoe’s 100th-goal milestone helps sum up the amazing qualities that she brings to the table as a student-athlete, including hard work, dedication, persistence, athleticism and consistency,” her coach Patrick DiBenedetto said. “This is a milestone that is unbelievably difficult to achieve.” Maxwell reached the milestone the same day she was named Con Edison’s Westchester Scholar Athlete of the Week, when she was recognized for her athletic and academic achievements by a panel of athletic directors and coaches. She has also received All-League and League MVP honors, as well as All-Section, All-State Class B Player of the Year and All-American honors. “She is a role model for our soccer program,” DiBenedetto said. “Since her freshman year, her dedication to the sport, love of the game and commitment to her team has continued to develop, making her the complete athlete that she is today. As a senior captain, Zoe leads by example. She is the first one to practice and last to leave the field. Her knowledge of the game, explosive speed, technical skills and agility enable her to evade defenders and score goals. These qualities are all balanced by her humble personality and team spirit. She is a true teammate that always encourages her fellow players.” The girls soccer team is ranked No. 19 in New York State in Class B, and has earned the League Champion title for the third year in a row after boasting a 14-1-1 overall record. The team enters the Class B sectional tournament as the No. 2 seed, playing Yonkers Montessori Academy on Oct. 21 at Meszaros Field. In addition to her dedication on the field, Maxwell is taking a demanding course load consisting of Advanced Placement and honors-levels classes. She is a member of the Latin Club and a class representative, and was selected as a senior peer leader from a pool of 80 applicants. She is also an outstanding member of the track and field team and holds numerous titles and honors. Outside of school, Maxwell is a Westchester Youth Soccer League referee and volunteers to provide holiday gifts for children in need. Maxwell will attend Brown University next fall, where she will continue her academic and athletic pursuits. It was also an opportunity for them to celebrate the friendships they’ve fostered within their school community. “We strive for a kind, respectful and inclusive environment at Main Street School,” Principal Joyce Chapnick said. “It is our hope that our daily efforts to embed character building as well as our special events related to character building will foster a positive environment in which children can learn.” Students and staff all wore new orange t-shirts celebrating friendship and community, joining others around the country also wearing orange to unite against bullying — and unite for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.
