11/29/2016 District News: Week of 12/5/16BULLDOG BRILLIANCE Fifth Graders Celebrate D.A.R.E. Graduation ![]() Main Street School fifth-graders graduated from the District’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education program on Nov. 22 during a ceremony that was attended by parents, family members and teachers. D.A.R.E. works to teach children to make healthy and responsible choices. During the program, which is run by Irvington police detective Erik Seman and officer John Nyarady, the students learned how to resist peer pressures, say no to drugs and alcohol and make good decisions. “We thank Irvington police Detective Erik Seman and officer John Nyarady for teaching our students how to recognize and resist the direct and subtle pressures they will face in life,” Principal Joyce Chapnick said. “Through the program, the students developed positive relationships with detective Seman, officer Nyarady and the Irvington Police Department that will last a lifetime.” Prior to the graduation ceremony, the students displayed their final projects to share with their families what they’ve learned through D.A.R.E. Their projects will be displayed until Dec. 2. Mrs. Chapnick said the program was made possible through the collaboration between the District and the police department, and thanked the Irvington Education Foundation and Irvington PTSA for their generous support. BRICK DRIVE ![]() The Irvington PTSA Brick Drive is back! Our goal is to add 100 more bricks to our IMS/IHS patio by graduation. For each brick you buy, from now through January 31, 2017, your name will be added to a raffle for 1 free 4” x 8” brick with a small paw print logo. Buy a brick for yourself, your current student, your grad, your favorite staff member, or as a dedication. Proceeds from the sale of the engraved bricks will be used to create lovely outdoor spaces on the campuses of the Irvington schools that reflect the wonderful educational experiences happening inside the school buildings. The funds raised from our first 100 bricks paid for the beautiful brick sitting walls outside IMS (shown above).
