2/1/2017 District News: Week of 2/6/17BULLDOG BRILLIANCE Circus Experience Brings Balance and Motion to Life ![]() Second-graders learned to walk on stilts and teeter on a tightwire when the Amazing Grace Circus, an educational and outreach partner of Westchester Circus Arts, visited Dows Lane Elementary School from Jan. 23-27. Throughout the week, the students – who have been studying about balance and motion in their science classes – practiced various circus tricks before showing off their newly acquired skills to parents, teachers and peers. In addition to the stilt walking and tightwire lessons, they were taught to climb and hang off aerial silks. They also had the opportunity to learn diabolo manipulation and plate spinning. “The circus experience brought to life the concepts the students have been reading about in class,” second-grade teacher Dina Lenhardt said. “They liked using their bodies to balance on the stilts and tightwire, and the aerial silks were also fun for them because it’s something they would never get to do on their own.” The Amazing Grace Circus performers provided a variety of engaging activities for the students to help them learn about balance and motion in a fun and interactive way. Their visit was generously sponsored through a grant from the PTSA.
