Two Destination Imagination Teams Advance to Global Finals
Two teams from the Irvington Union Free School District – the Wise Dolphins and Gerald Harrison is a Random Name – competed in the Destination Imagination state tournament, held at SUNY Broome Community College in Binghamton on April 8.
Members of Gerald Harrison is a Random Name, a team of fourth-graders, placed second, while members of the Wise Dolphins, a team of fifth-graders, placed third. Although the top two teams in each category, typically, advance to the next level of competition, the high scores of a third-place finisher can earn the team a spot. Both Irvington teams have earned a spot to compete in the Global Finals, which will be held in Knoxville, Tennessee from May 24-27.
Gerald Harrison is a Random Name team members include Sawyer Chalsen, Ian Eckers, Minori Furtado, Rayna Gupta, Jack Silverman, Ethan Walters and Alex Williams. The Wise Dolphins team members are Emma Jee, Katelyn Jee, Jack Kempler, Will Neubauer, Maren Piersol, Chloe Pisani and Carleigh Taylor.
“A special thank you to the team managers, Nancy Silverman, Jennifer Williams, Kit Kempler, Trista Neubauer and Felicia Patinkin, as well as Nancy Woeckener, the DI coordinator, for all of their hard work,” Main Street School Principal Joyce Chapnick said. “Special thanks to the Irvington Education Foundation for the generous funding of Destination Imagination.”
