5/17/2017 District News: Week of 5/22/17BULLDOG BRILLIANCE IHS Students Battle Hunger at Food Bank ![]() Members of the Irvington High School National Honor Society, their advisor Diana Cassidy and a parent volunteer helped battle hunger in Westchester County by participating in a service project at the Food Bank for Westchester on May 7. They helped pack 10-pound bags of produce, to help feed senior citizens in need of assistance throughout the county. Working in an assembly line, each volunteer was responsible for adding two pounds of their given produce to a bag before passing it down the line. Once the bags were filled, the students tied them up and helped place them in large boxes for distribution. At the end of their service, the students toured the facility and learned more about the organization’s hunger action programs. “The staff at the Food Bank told us how many people they serve who have housing and jobs, but cannot afford healthy and nutritious food for their families, and no one should have to make the choice between paying rent or eating,” Cassidy said. According to their website, the Food Bank for Westchester serves more than 300 community partners throughout the area, including food pantries, soup kitchens, child and adult day-care centers and shelters.
