First Day of School Brings Enthusiasm for New Academic Year
Irvington Union Free School District teachers and administrators welcomed new and returning students on the first day of school on Sept. 5, which brought excitement and enthusiasm for the new academic year. With books and school supplies in tow, students were ready to learn, grow and seek new academic opportunities as they entered their classrooms.
“There is a great deal of excitement across the district as a result of the arrival of our students,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kristopher Harrison said. “The faculty, staff and administration are motivated to share in many enriching experiences with our students and are dedicated to making this a memorable school year.”
Teachers at Dows Lane Elementary School and Main Street School greeted their students with smiles, helped them organize their school supplies and guided them through their expectations for the year.
Meanwhile, teachers at the middle and high school also warmly welcomed back students. Irvington High School students jumped in with a regular full day of classes on the first day of school, while the halls at Irvington Middle School were buzzing with chatter as eighth-graders teamed up with sixth-graders for various first-day-of-school activities, which were designed to help the younger students make a smooth transition into their new school. Students were treated to a PTSA-sponsored barbecue in the courtyard and later participated in a scavenger hunt that sent them on an adventure around the building.

DONATE TO NATIONAL PTA’S DISASTER RELIEF FUND
National PTA urges everyone to donate to the Association’s Disaster Relief Fund, which was established to respond to tragedies that grievously disrupt a school or education system. National PTA’s Disaster Relief Fund is expected to be fully depleted by the support of schools impacted by Hurricane Harvey in Texas. We know we can count on our PTA members across the country to help replenish the fund to meet the emerging needs caused by Hurricane Irma.
